State-of-the-Art Surgery Suite    Pain Management

State-of-the-Art Surgery SuiteTop of Page

Our modern surgical suite features state-of-the-art equipment and instruments, including cautery, suction and monitoring devices. Our heated surgery table allows us to maintain your pet's body temperature during any surgical procedures.

Prior to any surgery, we do a complete physical examination and recommend pre-anesthetic blood testing, to identify any pre-existing medical conditions that might affect your pet's health. Results of these examinations allow us to determine the correct anesthetic for your pet.

We use the most current inhalant anesthetics to make anesthesia as safe as possible for your pet. Please see our Anesthesia section for more information.

The results of the blood work aid us in determining if any extra precautions need to be taken if we proceed with a procedure or if there is any reason to postpone surgery if there are unforeseen medical problems.

We are well-equipped for many soft tissue surgeries, including:
  • spaying and neutering (please click here for the benefits of spaying and neutering)
  • tumor removal
  • cystotomies
  • abdominal exploratories
  • orthopedic procedures
We also do exotic animal/pocket pet surgical procedures:
  • rabbit neuters
  • rat tumor removals
  • guinea pig spays
  • and more
Before surgery, you will receive instructions on preparing for surgery, including feeding or fasting your pet.

NOTE: Do not fast your exotic pets overnight for surgery, as their metabolism is different from that of dogs and cats. Do withdraw their food in the morning and be sure to bring in some food for them to eat after recovery.

Pain ManagementTop of Page

Pain management is an important part of our surgical and medical protocol. All surgical patients, including those undergoing spay or neuter procedures, receive a pain control injection. Our staff will discuss post-anesthesia pain management options with you. Please see our Pain Management section for more information.
